Honeyed Cheerios

Honeyed Cheerios

I was lurking on a thread on the Beachbody message boards the other day, and a P90xer was bemoaning the loss of her favorite snack – Honey Nut Cheerios. After one glance at the ingredients in Honey Nut Cheerios, it is clear that they are nowhere near as healthy as their plain counterparts – for one, high fructose corn syrup raises its ugly head! It occurred to me, though, that the same process we used to candy the slivered almonds for Mandarin Salad would probably work for Cheerios too…Tried it, and they taste just the same, but now they fit into the P90x portion approach! My husband has mentioned that Cheerios taste AMAZING during the low-carb phase of P90x, so I figured that some of you would appreciate the option to make your carb serving even sweeter, using only 1/2 condiment serving!

  • 1 cup Cheerios
  • 1 Tb. Honey

Spread tin foil on the counter. Heat small saucepan over medium heat. Add honey and Cheerios, stirring and cooking for 2 to 3 minutes. Working quickly, spread honeyed Cheerios out on tin foil. After they have cooled, remove from tin foil and store in an airtight container.

P90x Nutrition Plan Servings:

Full recipe is 1 carb serving, 1/2 condiment serving.

P.S. Congrats, you can now have a bowl of homemade Honey Nut Cheerios for breakfast during P90x! =)

P.P.S. Or, add your Double snack and fruit serving to this (1 oz. peanuts, and 2 mini boxes raisins) and it becomes trail mix!

P.P.P.S. Or, sprinkle this, some berries, and 1 tsp. of vanilla over plain yogurt, and this would make a yummy yogurt parfait!
