Hi! I’m CJ =), a work-from-home mom and wife of a P90xer. When my husband decided to give P90x a go two years ago, we made a deal: He’d commit to doing the exercises without fail, and I’d manage the food. He promised to eat anything that I put in front of him! So, I memorized the nutrition guide from cover to cover, researched supplements, protein powders, bars, the works.
When I started this blog, my hubby was on day 32 of the program, and he had already lost 6 lbs, gained tons of muscle, and trimmed 3 inches off of his belly.
I decided to start this blog because, as I managed his nutrition, I developed a p90x nutrition journal document that I wanted to share with other P90xers out there. Also, I found I had a knack for coming up with creative P90x recipes that fit into the portion approach, so I started posting them here for others’ benefit.
I am not a doctor or nutritionist. I don’t have any training in this – I’ve just done a lot of research as I’ve been planning my husband’s portion approach. So here is the inevitable C.M.A. statement - while I share my opinions about P90x nutrition here, my advice should not replace that of your doctor, nutritionist, priest, rabbi, etc.!
I should also mention that I’m not a Beachbody coach – I’m not trying to sell anyone on P90x. My goal is to share the results of my research into P90x nutrition and the new recipes I’m coming up with, in the hopes that it will make starting out easier for other people than it was for us!
I hope this is helpful – keep pressing play and don’t forget to BRING IT! – CJ =)
***12/18/10 Update – As P90xer Sam recommended in the comments below, I’ve added a Paypal Donate button for those of you who are feeling especially grateful for the site! It is now added on the right-hand menu, right above the Google ads. While this is a hobby, if I make some money through the site it does help justify all of the time I’m putting into it when I should be doing other “real” work!! =)***
***7/5/11 Update – Another thing you can do if you appreciate the site and want to help out is go back to the homepage, then use the Google +1 button at the top left of the page to “like” the homepage and any other recipes or pages that you like on the site. This should help get the word out about the site to more people by helping it rank higher in Google! Thanks!!***
***2/15/12 Update - In response to reader requests, I’ve recently published a P90x Menus and Shopping List eBook for Phase 1, Level II. In it, I plan your whole first Phase of P90x meals for you according to the P90x Nutrition Plan and using recipes off of this site. It takes all of the guess work out of your P90x nutrition for Phase 1, since I’ve done all of the planning for you. Check it out if you are interested in making your own life easier and supporting my work here at the same time! =) ***

I did P90X for the full 90 days last January. I kept it up through May but then the summer got the best of me so I quit. I am starting back up now and I am SO happy to have found your site as it is hard to eat the same stuff over and over again. I can’t wait to try the recipes. Thank you!

I started P90X today and will be going grocery shopping today. This site is extremely helpful. I was wondering if anyone is still active and wants to be my Team Beachbody Buddy. All the ones I find look like they haven’t been active for a long time.

CJ,
Thanks so much for this site! My husband and I both are in day 9 of P90X. These recipes are wonderful and so easy to make (I am a mom of 3 and work full time) so I do appreciate the quick and easy recipes.

You’re welcome, Melanie!! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I’m a mom of a gaggle of children myself – anything to help a fellow mom balance a pile of children and P90x at the same time is worth it! Keep me posted on your progress.

Hey CJ,
I’m starting P90x This Monday and I my anxiety is was more about the nutrition plan than the exercise. I like to work out but it’s hard finding little ways to save time and money on food. I know I know everyone’s excuse, but I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your website and I can tell you put alot of time into it, It’s in my favorites and I will be definitely telling you how I’m doing.

Hi CJ!
Just found your site and can’t wait to try some of your recipes! So, how is your husbands journey with P90X going? My husband and I started the program about 3 years ago..I gained 10 lbs the first go round, he lost 25! We still use P90X, One on One with Tony, and P90X2. Great program, if you stick with it!
Thanks for the great siteT

Hi CJ! I’m sorry if these question have already been asked, but I sadly do not have time to read all of the posts to find out.
I am very interested in the e-book you have out for the first phase of the P90X diet! Are the recipes that you have included in the e-book individual recipes or are many of they for more than one serving? The grocery list that I am able to see in the sample given looks like a lot of food, but I just wanted to check.
Also, do you have any plans to come out with e-books for phases two and three? I have been looking for something like this for a while, so I am excited to possibly get this one and potentially have others on the way! I look forward to your answers… and thank you for providing such an awesome blog and e-book!!!

Hey Morgan!
The P90x menu and shopping list ebook uses the recipes on this site, so many of them are indeed for more than one serving. However I do reuse the leftovers as part of the plan, so if you are cooking for more than just yourself, you’d need to double or triple the recipes to make enough food for other people.
You’re right that it is a lot of food for one person! A big reason for that is that the food you are eating is so healthy. My favorite example? A Big Mac is 540 calories. To get the equivalent in plain chicken, you’d have to eat 16.2 ounces of chicken breast! So eating the 2400 calories called for by Level II of the P90x nutrition plan doesn’t sound like so much more than we’re used to, but when you’re talking about eating 2400 calories of healthy protein, veggies, and few condiments, it is a lot to power through! A lot of people have trouble finishing all of the alloted calories when they start out the program, and that’s OK. The Beachbody staff do not recommend that you stuff yourself. The idea is that your body is going to start needing those calories over time, so you’ll probably have less trouble finishing it as time goes on. So if it looks like a lot of food, that’s because it is!!
I do have plans to come out with ebooks for phases 2 and 3 – this first one has sold so well that the Phase 2 is in the works. However, I’m not going to committ to a date on it, because with the last one I had to ignore my whole life for 3 weeks to get it out on time! I can’t afford to do that again. I’m working my way through it, but can’t give an ETA at this point. One encouragement, though, is that people who have used the first ebook have told me that it helped teach them how to go about planning their P90x meals. I think once you’ve seen how I’ve done it, and spent a month using it and/or making substitutions for your tastes, you’ll find that you can plan your next Phase fairly easily using my P90x food journal pages.
Hope that helps!
